Considering the symbolic/historical significance of Busan Station in the context of the city and its importance as a transportation hub and economic center in South Korea, our project envisions the redevelopment of the station and main plaza as a Gate to the city. By breaking the large public plaza into smaller, more intimately scaled spaces, the project is developed around the concept of surfaces - multiple folded strips, each creating spaces above and below to generate programmable spaces and underground landscape.
